The Belonging Fund

Fund the people who multiply belonging

The Belonging Fund is rooted in a simple conviction: the resources to do this work already exist. The challenge is connecting them with the trusted community leaders who can put them into practice—and expanding what's possible, community by community.

About the Belonging Fund

The Belonging Fund expands access to ACL™ training and certification for trusted community and social impact leaders facing financial barriers—investing in people whose work already strengthens the lives of others.

Is the Belonging Fund right for you?

  • You already serve a community that would welcome and benefit from ACL™ practices.
  • You have trusted relationships within that community and opportunities to share what you learn.
  • You are committed to offering at least six ACL™ experiences within the year following certification.
  • The Accessibility Rate remains a genuine financial barrier for you at this time.
  • You believe this training could strengthen both your leadership and the community you serve.
Why it matters

Expanding access to relational health

Belonging grows through relationships. Some people are uniquely positioned to extend its reach: the teacher who sees dozens of students each year, the clinician or coach embedded in a community, the faith leader, organizer, or facilitator whose presence shapes the lives of many. When ACL™ trains one of these trusted leaders, we are not investing in a single transformation. We are strengthening the relationships that sustain families, workplaces, neighborhoods, and communities.

The Belonging Fund exists to place this training within reach of leaders who face financial barriers but are already serving others. It is a shared investment in people who are committed to carrying Awareness, Courage, and Love into the communities they know best. Every scholarship expands the capacity for connection, belonging, and relational health far beyond the individual who receives it.

"We already know how to strengthen connection and reduce isolation. The challenge isn't a lack of science—it's placing these practices in the hands of people who can extend their reach through the communities they love and serve. The Belonging Fund helps make that possible."

Who your investment reaches

The Belonging Fund is designed to support leaders whose impact extends beyond themselves. Priority is given to applicants who demonstrate both meaningful community reach and financial need.

Trusted community leaders

People already serving a group, team, organization, or community — in education, healthcare, social services, faith communities, caregiving, military settings, grassroots organizing, and beyond — who are positioned to bring relational practices directly into the lives of others.

A commitment to carry it forward

Belonging Fund participants identify a specific community they already serve and commit to offering at least six ACL™ experiential workshops within the year following certification, extending the impact of their training through relationships that already exist.

A clear vision for impact

We look for leaders who can articulate what this training would make possible in their unique context, and how they hope to strengthen connection, courage, and belonging within their communities.

Financial need

The Accessibility Rate is still out of reach for many of the people best positioned to spread this work. The Belonging Fund helps remove that barrier so that cost does not determine who has access to this training.

For applicants

Apply for a scholarship

Think you might be one of these leaders? We hope you'll apply. We review every application with care. Rather than asking you to prove hardship through extensive documentation, we want to understand your community, your commitment, and the difference ACL™ practices could make in the lives of the people you serve. We're looking for people who are ready to learn deeply, participate fully, and carry this work forward.

You may be a good fit if:

  • You already serve a specific community, team, or group that would welcome and benefit from ACL™ practices.
  • You're committed to offering at least six ACL™ experiential meetings within that community during the year following certification.
  • The Accessibility Rate remains a real financial barrier in your current circumstances.
  • You can articulate what this training would make possible for you and the community you serve.

If this training could strengthen your community and would otherwise be out of reach, we hope you'll let us consider your story.

Belonging Fund scholarship application

Thank you for considering this. Before you begin, please know: we review every application with care, and there is no version of this form you can get wrong.

We review applications with care, dignity, and trust. We are not asking you to prove hardship — we are asking you to help us understand your community, your commitment, and the difference this training could make. Because the Belonging Fund exists to extend ACL's impact, priority is given to applicants who already have trusted relationships within the communities they hope to serve. Your community does not need to be part of a formal organization. We welcome applications from people who already convene others through informal networks, neighborhood initiatives, mutual aid efforts, faith communities, online spaces, and grassroots groups. If you are wondering whether to apply, please apply. Many people who receive support almost talked themselves out of it, assuming someone else was more deserving. If this training could strengthen your community and would otherwise be out of reach, we hope you will let us consider your story.

About this form: Five short sections, shown one at a time — about 15–20 minutes total. Every written answer has a suggested length — we'd rather have your real answer than a polished one.

Section 1 · About you

Just the basics, so we know who's writing to us.

We'll use this for every step of your application — committee questions, decisions, and your offer if accepted.
A sentence is plenty — e.g. “High school counselor, public school system” or “Independent community organizer.”
How did you hear about ACL™ or this cohort? (optional)
Feel free to share any relevant links — LinkedIn, Instagram, a website, or anywhere else you're active online.
Section 2 · Your community

This is the heart of the application — tell us about the people you already serve.

If the group doesn't have an official name, simply describe it in a way that helps us understand who they are — e.g. “the teachers at Escola Horizonte in São Paulo,” “the women's cooperative in my village,” “the online support group I have been facilitating the past year.”
2–3 sentences (about 750 characters). Help us understand the community itself and the trust you've built within it.
Roughly how many people are part of this community? A range is fine — we're not asking for a precise count.
In what language(s) do you expect to facilitate ACL experiences?
Section 3 · Your commitment

Belonging Fund seats come with a real responsibility — we want to be clear about it, and to hear your plan.

Belonging Fund participants commit to facilitating at least 6 ACL™ experiential meetings within their named community over the 12 months following certification. This is what makes a scholarship seat a multiplier investment rather than a discount — we ask every applicant to commit to it clearly.

Will you commit to running at least 6 ACL™ experiential meetings within the community you named, over the next 12 months?

If you're not able to say yes clearly, that's completely alright — the Belonging Fund may not be the right fit for you at this time, but our sliding-scale pricing has no eligibility requirements at all, and we'd still love to have you in the program.

Format, frequency, who attends — 2–3 sentences (about 750 characters). This is a question our committee weighs closely, so take your time.
Section 4 · Financial context

This section is short on purpose. We trust your answer — no documentation needed.

Is the $850 Accessibility Rate a genuine barrier for you right now?
A sentence or two is enough — we are not asking for proof, only your own words.
Section 5 · Why this matters to you

The last question — and the one we read most closely. Take the space you need here.

500–750 characters. There's no “right” answer — we want to hear what's true for you.

Thank you for sharing your story with us — and for the work you're already doing in your community.

We review every application with care. Your answers are kept confidential.

What happens next

  1. We'll confirm we've received your application right away.
  2. Our scholarship committee will review it — you may receive a brief follow-up question by email.
  3. You'll hear back with a decision within 14 business days.
  4. If your application isn't selected, we'll let you know personally — and our sliding-scale rates remain open to you, no application required.
For applicants

How scholarships work

  1. Complete the Belonging Fund application in about 20 minutes.

  2. Our scholarship committee reviews your application with care.

  3. We may invite you to a brief conversation if more context would help.

  4. You’ll receive a decision within 14 business days.

  5. If selected, you’ll receive your scholarship offer and next steps.

  6. Join the Founding Cohort with full access to materials, faculty, and certification.

The Belonging Fund offers a limited number of partial scholarships to each cohort, reducing the Accessibility Rate of $850 to as low as $550. All participants contribute toward their tuition as an investment in their own growth and the communities they serve. Belonging Fund recipients receive the same training, materials, faculty access, community membership, and certification as every other participant. Payment plans of up to 10 months are available.

If you're wondering whether to apply, we encourage you to do so. If this training could strengthen the community you serve and financial barriers stand in the way, we'd be honored to consider your application.
